Mr. Soumya Baral holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Disaster Management from the University of Dhaka. His academic and research interests center on natural hazards, sustainability science, and community resilience, with a strong emphasis on field-based and policy-relevant research.
RATHINDRA NATH BISWAS

Mr. Rathindra Nath Biswas has been working in the Remote Sensing Division at Centre for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS) since January 2018. He holds an M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Geography and Environment from Jahangirnagar University. He has been involved in GIS and remote sensing since his undergraduate studies and has gained extensive experience in satellite image processing, remote sensing applications, land use and land cover mapping, and the analysis of fluvial landform dynamics.
MD JUEL MIA
Chairperson, Disaster Perception
Mr. Md Juel Mia is a volunteer, researcher and environmental activist committed to advancing resilient communities in the face of natural hazards. He is currently a PhD student in Urban and Regional Sciences Program at Texas A&M University. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mass Communication and Journalism from the University of Dhaka and a second master’s degree in Sustainability Studies from Texas State University. His primary research interests lie at the intersection of hazards and sustainability, with additional interests in human–nature relations, urban planning, environmental (in)justice, and risk communication. Before his career at the University, he served as a newsroom editor at Somoy News, a leading satellite television channel in Bangladesh.
KANIZ FATEMA RIMI
Research Assistant, Hazard Mapping Unit, Disaster Perception
Kaniz Fatema Rimi obtained both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Disaster Management from the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies, University of Dhaka. She gained practical experience as an intern at the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, where she evaluated the implementation of government-led disaster mitigation initiatives. Her research interests encompass disaster governance, hazard mitigation, and social vulnerability assessment, with a dedicated focus on evidence-based approaches to reducing community-level risks.
